Exploring the Ying and Yang of the Early life Microbiota

I hold a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Medical Laboratory Technology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and pursued a master’s degree in Microbiology at C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in Ghana. I have over seven years of experience as a Biomedical Scientist in the Ghana Health Service. My career began at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where I rotated through various diagnostic laboratory units. I later moved to the Navrongo Health Research Centre, where I was involved in microbiological surveys, including bacterial carriage studies and antimicrobial resistance surveillance, and contributed to clinical trials. Subsequently, I worked at the Kassena Nankana West District Hospital/ Paga Port Health Laboratory, conducting infectious disease surveillance among immigrants and community members.

I joined the Hall lab in 2025 and would be looking at the interactions between components of maternal breastmilk, especially human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) and lipids, and their effects on the growth and genetic variations of Bifidobacterium in infants. By screening breastmilk components and linking these growth profiles to Bifidobacteriumstrains, this study aims to uncover pathways involved in early life diet metabolism.
