Thomas Atkinson
Microbiome Technician
My current projects look at gut microbes during pregnancy and early life (PEARL), and in healthy ageing (MOTION).
I joined the Hall Lab in October 2020 as a microbiome technician, preparing and processing a variety of samples collected from participants of the two longitudinal studies (PEARL & MOTION). Processing includes DNA extraction, bacterial isolation, flow cytometry and tissue culture.
I previously worked in the Microbiology department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital as part of the bacteriology team (2016-2020), where I was also trained and volunteered in the virology department during the pandemic. During my time at microbiology, I started and finished my BSc in Health Sciences with The Open University.
